Luke Learns to Wave

Luke is now 9 months old.  He has two teeth and has learned to wave.  Now he waves at everything!
I used the fill feature on one of the templates that comes with the MyMemories software.  Made 61 pages in less than 3 minutes!

Pop-Pop and Luke

My dad had not met his first Great-Grandchild yet, so right after Christmas his wife drove him up to Allentown and Aurora & I drove up from Stafford and we met with Sara & Luke. Dad was so afraid to hold him.  He was afraid he'd hurt Luke.  That didn't last long.  Luke couldn't wait to make friends with his Pop-Pop.  Never saw my dad so happy!

I want to journal that on one of the pages, but I'm no sure which.  I'm thinking maybe the first one.  What do you think?

Sunday Scrap Challenge

OK, I know it's now Thursday.  So, I'm a little late.  Every Sunday at 8PM, Lisa J of the MyMemories staff gives us a challenge to try.  This past Sunday we were to choose 2 background papers & 1 photo. Make the photo into a circle shape and mat it.  Make 2 rectangle shapes and fill them with patterned paper. Make a circle shape and fill it with a patterned paper and place it overlapping the photo. Make a cluster of embellishments in the circle shape.  Make another small cluster on the opposite side of the photo.  Add ribbon anywhere on the page.  Shadow, date, journal. Finish the page any way you want.  This is what I came up with.

Tutorials

If you see nothing else, go to:

You can see one of the early commercials for the product.  The software was originally produced by Polaroid, and after a few years, they didn't want to work with it any more and sold it to their group of fans.  Pretty cool!  Now it's the folks that actually use the software that decide what the upgrades need and how to improve it.

My Memories upgraded their software about a month ago.  A couple of improvements, but basically the same software.  It's really nice to not have to learn a whole new language to work with the upgrade.  My Memories has a whole bunch of free tutorials on their page: http://www.mymemoriesblog.com/search/label/Tutorials

You don't even have to have the My Memories software to use quite a few of the tutorials.  It's a nice way to see what the software has to offer, but better, it teaches you how to create more exciting pages.  When I first bought the software, I spent hours going through tutorial after tutorial, so I could get the most out of the software.  You don't have to do that, but I really enjoyed it.  The "teacher" isn't super-professional, she sounds more like a good friend, guiding your through everything. I really like that much better than some slick presentation.

If you go to http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=my+memories+suite&oq=mymemories&aq=4s&aqi=g2g-s1g1g-s6&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=360l751l0l12208l3l2l0l0l0l0l413l600l0.1.4-1l2l0

You'll see some of the early tutorials for My Memories.

Holy Cow!  Mye de Leon is one of my favorite designers.  She has a ton of kits on sale until January 31st.  Lots of them for $1.00 each.  http://www.mymemories.com/store/designers/Mye_De_Leon

Indigo Designs has gorgeous designs.  When she has a sale, it's not much, only maybe 20% off.  But this week, she has lots of stuff for free. And I couldn't help myself.  I bought the Snowflakes kit today.  Come on snow!!!  http://www.mymemories.com/store/designers/Indigo_Designs

First try on my own

Well, the calendar was pretty easy, so I thought I'd try something harder. With my $10 coupon, I bought a kit called "Sweet Baby Girl." It's just a background paper, a few embellishments and then some journaling. Not much, but enough to try everything out. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Here is the first layout I did using My Memories. It gave me a place for 3 photos and my first grandchild had just been born, so guess which photos I was going to use? It was simple, but not super attractive.

Getting Started!

I've had so much fun with digital scrapbooking I thought I'd share with you. I tried making layouts using Photoshop, but it was a little complicated for me. I found this page on Facebook called MyMemories. I lurked for a while and thought maybe I would give the software a try. Everyone said it was really easy, so I decided I was going to "bite the bullet" and buy the software. It was $40, but a friend gave me a code to use to get $10 off the software, plus $10 to spend in the shop mymemories.com. I figured that was like half price, and I'm a real bargain hunter, so maybe this would be the thing for me.

First, I went to the website and took a look around. They had all these free kits you could download, whether you had a PC or a Mac. Plus, if you choose not to buy the software, you could download them as "General" files and use them in Photoshop. Well, what's better than free? Then I looked at the Dollar Store. So many kits for $1!! Wow! You get the papers and embellishments with some of these kits - for $1. Loving that.

Downloading the software was easy and so was downloading the kits. Once I got the software installed, I opened up the file for one of the kits, and it automatically downloaded to my Applications folder. Cool Beans! I decided to try one of the "Quick Pages." The designer puts together everything but the photo. I have SO MANY photos I need to get scrapbooked! Holy cow! It was so easy! And it looked really professional. I really liked it, so I decided to try a page using the kit and make it up myself. Not super good, not super bad. I uploaded a jpg of the page to the MyMemories facebook page and asked for critique. A lady said it would look better with "shadows" so I gave that a try. What a difference! It looked like all the photos and embellishments jumped off the page!

I am having so much fun with this! If you think you might want the software, I'm going to do for you what my friend did for me. If you buy the software, when it asks for a Promo Code, cut and paste this:

STMMMS31635

It's best to cut and paste so your get all the letters and numbers correct. That will get you $10 off the software and the software will come with a coupon for $10 any purchase in the store.

If you decide to give it a try, let me know. I'd love to share pages and tips with you. If you decide not to get the software and continue to use Photoshop or something like that, also let me know. I'd love to swap ideas!
